12V Battery Access

Access Tools Required:

  • Ratchet
  • 13mm  Socket
  • 6 -8"  extension
  • Body  trim  removal  tool

Process:

Accessing the Battery:

  • To gain access to the bolts securing the hood use a body trim removal tool and apply careful pressure to release the clips securing the service lid in place. Place the service lid in a safe location to avoid scratching it.
  • Remove the two bolts securing the hood. Use the ratchet with the extension and 13mm socket to do this.
  • Using both hands, raise the hood. Ensure the hood hinge locking pin engages before releasing it.

Jump Start Process:

  • With one hand, raise the hood slightly from the center to remove the tension from the locking pin. With your right hand, press the lever to release the locking pin from the hinge arm. Then, lower and close the hood.

  • Remove the 12V battery busper box lid to access the positive post.
  • Connect the red positive clamp from the booster pack to the battery's positive post.
  • Then connect the black negative clamp from the booster pack to the chassis ground lug under the windshield wiper cowl.
  • Turn on the battery booster pack and set it to charge at 13 .5Volts.

Battery Replacement:

  • First step, unbolt the bracket with the green high-voltage connector from the frame and set aside.

Finishing Up and Closing the Hood:

  • Once the boost is completed, remove the booster pack and replace the 12V battery busper box lid.
  • With one hand, raise the hood slightly from the center to remove the tension from the locking pin. With your right hand, press the lever to release the locking pin from the hinge arm. Then, lower and close the hood.
  • With the hood closed, install the two bolts securing the hood to the front bumper assembly. Before tightening them, check and adjust the alignment and gaps to other panels and components.
  • With the hood secured in place, it's time to put the service lid back on. Position and align the lid into place before installation.

Tips to Minimize Damage:

Additional Recommended Tools:

  • Fender  covers
  • Hood  prop
  • Tape

Process Tips

  • Apply tape to protect the paint on the lid and the front light bar.

  • If you are using a non-magnetic socket, be extremely careful not to drop the bolt into the bodywork.

  • Cover the sharp edges of the hood fastening brackets.

  • Place fender covers on both sides and the front.

  • Secure the hood using the hood prop.

Additional Info:

  • If there's an issue that prevents putting the car into gear, this same process will allow you to put the vehicle into neutral so it can be moved as necessary.
